James M. Nederlander is the current patriarch of the famous Nederlander family of Detroit, Michigan. The family started in show business by operating the Detroit Opera house and has grown into a worldwide organization that own, operate, and produce live theatre across the United States and in London’s West End. James M. Nederlander (sometimes called James Nederland Sr) is the chairman of Nederlander Alliances, LLC while his son James M. Nederlander (sometimes called James Nederland Jr) is the president. In 2008 the National High School Musical Theater Awards were announced to celebrate outstanding student performances in high school musical productions across the United States; the annual award are named “The Jimmy,” in honor of James M. Nederlander.
In Los Angeles, the Nederlander organization operates the Pantages Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, The Wiltshire Theatre in Beverly Hills, the 6,200-seat Greek Theater leased from the city, and the 20,000-seat Staples Center Arena.

Tony Award-winning Broadway producer James Nederlander Jr., President of the Nederlander Organzation, has filed a lawsuit against the estate of the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, over song rights for a potential Broadway musical, the New York Times reports.
