Winnie the Pooh is a Walt Disney Company franchise built upon the animated, fictional bear who was based on the 1926 book by A. A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh. In 1961, Walt Disney Productions licensed film and other rights to the characters, stories, and trademarks from The Estate of A. A. Milne and Stephen Slesinger, the book’s illustrator. Disney made a series of cartoon films and television shows about the lovable bear. The Disney Animations were based on several of the original stories and the distinctive images made popular by A.A. Milne’s and his illustrator, Stephen Slesinger. Today, Winnie the Pooh is known around the world.
